62 Spring Street Named MEREDA 2019 Notable Project

July 24, 2020

CHA Architecture’s modern design of the energy-efficient housing development at 62 Spring Street in Auburn, Maine, will be honored as one of the seven outstanding projects selected as 2019 Notable Projects by the Maine Real Estate & Development Association (MEREDA).

MEREDA’s Notable Project Awards recognize notable and significant commercial development projects throughout Maine, all of which help promote a healthy, thriving economy. 62 Spring Street was selected “for its diversity and vibrancy, epitomizing Smart Growth,” a concept which successfully connects the dots between affordable housing, city walkability, economic energy, and downtown growth.”

Congratulations to everyone on the project team who provided Auburn Housing Development with this stunning contemporary building, accommodating all stages of life, as its first housing development in more than 30 years! 62 Spring Street is showcased alongside the other winning projects on MEREDA’s website.

62 Spring Street

On the site of a former funeral home, 62 Spring Street is a new energy-efficient, 4-story apartment building that brings the City of Auburn, Maine, 32 affordable housing units, 9 market rate housing units, and retail space accessible to the greater community by a bus stop adjacent to the building. The development affords its residents access to a walkable downtown, locating residents of all ages close to the City’s center. Easy connectivity to services, a grocery store, City Hall, the Public Library, Androscoggin River Walk, and more contribute to a pedestrian friendly development that puts people near services and jobs and creates a 24-hour city.

Auburn Housing Development’s first new housing development in more than 30 years, 62 Spring Street encourages city living, while providing residents with the option of living without the expense and maintenance of owning a vehicle.  It also provides an opportunity for residents to “Age in Place” and maintain independence regardless of their abilities/disabilities since the apartment units are designed to be fully accessible. When fully occupied, 62 Spring Street will become a diverse, vibrant community that represents the many residents of Auburn.

62 Spring Street and the other six Notable Projects will each be recognized with their own article in the Maine Real Estate Insider e-newsletter published by Mainebiz. MEREDA plans to formally recognize all seven award-winning projects at a future event when it is safe to do so.
